Salon Frédéric Chopin

The Salon Frédéric Chopin is a quiet, dedicated space located inside the Polish Library on the Île Saint-Louis. It occupies a single room but serves as the only exhibition in France entirely devoted to the life and work of the composer. The collection is highly personal, housing memorabilia from his years in Paris, including his own chair from his final apartment on the Place Vendôme. You can also view a plaster death mask created by the sculptor Auguste Clésinger just after the composer passed away in 1849, alongside a casting of his left hand. These artifacts offer a rare, intimate perspective on the man who transformed piano music during the Romantic era. Because it is a private archive and museum, access is limited, reflecting the focused, scholarly atmosphere maintained by the Polish Historical-Literary Society that oversees the building.
