The building you are approaching at number 20 Rue de Clichy once housed the Théâtre Apollo, a legendary music hall that opened in 1907. This venue was famous for its engineering marvel, a specialized removable stage known as the basculo, which was designed by the prolific engineer Félix Léon Edoux. The theater became a central hub for Parisian operetta, famously hosting the French premiere of The Merry Widow in 1909. For decades, it commanded a significant place in the city's artistic scene, boasting its own full symphony orchestra before the site eventually disappeared in the late nineteen fifties.
