The garden you are approaching serves as a quiet, green extension of the historic Hôtel de Lamoignon. This mansion was originally commissioned in the late sixteenth century by Diane de France, the legitimated daughter of King Henri the Second. If you look closely at the architecture of the main building, you can still spot carved stone symbols of her namesake, the goddess Diana, including crescent moons and hunting hounds. The garden itself now functions as a public sanctuary tucked away from the busy streets of the Marais, occupying land that once belonged to the private grounds of this grand residence.
