You are approaching the oldest major cabaret in Paris, a venue that holds a unique place in the city's history. It was originally established in eighteen hundred two by order of Napoleon Bonaparte, who sought to create a prominent theater in the Latin Quarter. This early iteration, known as the Theatre Latin, became a favorite haunt for nineteenth-century literary figures like Honoré de Balzac and Alexandre Dumas. Though that original structure burned to the ground during the turmoil of the Franco-Prussian War in eighteen seventy, the site was eventually resurrected in a spectacular way by one of the most famous engineers in history.
