Hôtel du Timbre

The Hotel du Timbre stands as a grand neoclassical landmark along the rue de la Banque, stretching over one hundred meters in length. This site was once the engine room for the official production of stamped paper, a government monopoly essential for legal and administrative proceedings throughout the nineteenth century. When you look at the central entrance, you are seeing the first major Parisian project of the celebrated architect Victor Baltard, who took over the design in eighteen forty-six after the death of the original architect, Paul Lelong.
