House of Nicolas Flamel

The building you are approaching at 51 rue de Montmorency is recognized as the oldest surviving stone house in Paris. Completed in 1407, its facade remains a striking example of early fifteenth-century architecture, despite the building being far more modest in scale than its legendary reputation might suggest. You can see the original stonework and carvings, which were painstakingly revealed during a major restoration in 1900. While many visitors arrive expecting to find a laboratory of mystical experiments, the house was actually built as a charitable almshouse for the poor.
