Tuileries Palace

The Tuileries Palace began as a landscape of grit and labor. Before it became a royal residence, the site was occupied by factories that produced roof tiles, which the French call tuiles. Queen Catherine de Medici commissioned the construction of a new palace here in fifteen sixty-four, aiming to create a grand residence that would eventually bridge the space between the Louvre and the city outskirts.
