Ady Endre síremléke

The grave of Endre Ady stands out for the bronze statue of a man crouched low, his head bent as if shielding a flame. Ady was the poet who dragged Hungarian literature into the twentieth century, writing of death, God, and the frantic pace of city life. When he died in nineteen nineteen, the country was in chaos. Thousands followed his casket through Budapest to this spot in Kerepesi Cemetery. It remains the destination for writers who leave pens on his headstone.
