The Indian Institute of World Culture occupies a quiet building in Basavanagudi marked by a simple, unassuming cream facade and large, rectangular windows. It started in nineteen forty-five when B. P. Wadia sought a space where people could discuss international literature and philosophy without political or religious agendas. The library remains the heart of the institute, housing thousands of books that members still browse on open shelves. Wadia insisted that the doors stay open to everyone, regardless of their background or formal education.
