Shri Doddabasavanna Temple

The Shri Doddabasavanna Temple is marked by a massive, monolithic stone bull, or Nandi, carved directly from the surrounding granite outcrop. Local legend says that the statue was discovered while a farmer was plowing his field, revealing the stone figure already shaped by the earth. Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, commissioned the surrounding shrine in the sixteenth century to house the bull. The Nandi measures over fifteen feet in height, serving as a permanent guardian for the sanctum.
