The Sri Dodda Ganapathi temple centers on a massive monolith of Lord Ganesha, carved directly out of a boulder that once lay exposed on this rocky ridge. According to local lore, Kempe Gowda the first, the founder of Bengaluru, discovered the stone while hunting and ordered his sculptors to carve the deity right where it sat. The statue stands eighteen feet tall and sixteen feet wide, coated today in over a hundred kilograms of butter during its frequent ceremonial offerings.
