Iglesia Cristo Rey

religious

The concrete walls of Iglesia Cristo Rey meet in a sharp, triangular peak that cuts a distinct silhouette against the tropical sky. Built in nineteen seventy-nine, this church serves as the oldest religious structure in downtown Cancun. When the city was still a fledgling resort project, laborers and early residents gathered here under a simple wooden roof to hold mass. The current building replaced that shelter, and it remains the primary place of worship for the local families who built this city.
