Parque de las Palapas

Parque de las Palapas features a large, open-air stage covered by a massive, sweeping thatched roof made of dried palm fronds. This park serves as the primary community hub for Cancún, existing as the rare space in the city designed for local families instead of international tourists. In nineteen seventy-five, planners laid out the space as a simple town square. They soon found that the residents preferred gathering here to share meals, watch performances, and trade stories under the shade of the palms.
