Mutrah Fort

Mutrah Fort sits atop a sharp, jagged rock outcrop, distinguished by its three circular towers connected by thick, crenellated walls. Built by the Portuguese in the fifteen eighties, the fort served as a primary defensive position overlooking the harbor. During the eighteenth century, Imam Ahmad bin Said captured it after a long siege, shifting control to the Omani forces. Today, it remains closed to the public, guarded by iron gates that keep its internal stone chambers and rusted cannons hidden from visitors below.
