Mutrah Souq

The dark, timber-slatted roof of Mutrah Souq filters the harsh Omani sun into narrow, dusty beams of light. This maze of stalls serves as the traditional commercial heart of Muscat, where goods from around the Indian Ocean once landed. Decades ago, merchants sold frankincense, coffee, and textiles from the backs of camels. Today, the narrow alleys still smell of heavy oud perfume and spices, remaining the primary place where local families and travelers trade for silver khanjars and intricately woven textiles.
