The entrance to Sur Al Lawatyah is marked by a distinct, ornate gatehouse topped with a small, traditional wind tower. This walled neighborhood was established by the Lawati community, a merchant family who arrived in Muscat centuries ago from the Sindh region. Behind these thick, defensive walls, the residents created a private, self-contained labyrinth of narrow alleys and closely packed houses. It remains one of the few private residential enclosures in Muscat that preserves its original structure and restricted access for the community.
