Shuyuanmen

The heavy stone archway at the entrance to Shuyuanmen features a distinct, traditional pailou design with elaborate bracket sets and weathered wooden beams. It marks the entrance to a street dedicated to the classical arts of calligraphy, painting, and ink stone carving. The name comes from the Guanzhong Academy, which operated here for centuries as a center for Confucian scholarship. While the city beyond this gate bustles with modern commerce, this street maintains the quiet, deliberate atmosphere of a traditional scholars' district.
