Xi'an City Wall Wen Chang Gate

The Wenchang Gate is a narrow opening sliced through the ancient, eighteen-meter-thick stone fortifications of Xi’an. While the rest of the city wall remains a continuous, unbroken loop, this gate was created in nineteen eighty-six to provide direct access to the Beilin Museum. Local residents often call it the South Gate’s little brother, but its name comes from the Wenchang Temple that once sat nearby. It serves as a quiet shortcut through a massive, otherwise impenetrable wall of grey brick.
