The Xi'an Academy Gate is a wide, stone-paved street flanked by traditional-style buildings with dark, upturned eaves and wooden lattice windows. It stands as the formal entrance to the Forest of Stone Steles Museum, where thousands of ancient engraved tablets hold the history of Chinese calligraphy. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Shaanxi Provincial Academy occupied this exact site. Scholars gathered here for decades to prepare for the rigorous imperial examinations, hoping to secure their futures through the brush and ink.
