Shemsi Ahmet Pasha Mosque

The Shemsi Ahmet Pasha Mosque sits directly on the edge of the water, distinguishable by the sharp, rhythmic arches of its portico and the way its low-slung lead domes seem to hover right above the Bosphorus. Built in fifteen eighty, it serves as the final commission of the master architect Mimar Sinan. Local legend claims that birds refuse to perch on its roof because of the building’s exact alignment with the wind, though sailors say the structure’s stone design simply leaves no foothold.
