Uskudar Fishermen's Market

The Uskudar Fishermen's Market sits directly under the street level, tucked into a long, narrow concrete arcade where the scent of salt and raw fish hangs heavy in the air. Stalls line both sides of the walkway, displaying the daily catch from the Bosphorus on beds of crushed ice. Fishermen haul crates from trucks in the early morning hours, unloading sea bass, bluefish, and bonito to sell to neighborhood cooks and restaurant owners who have been coming here for generations.
