Church of St. Gregory the Lusaveriç

The Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator in Kuzguncuk features a prominent stone facade punctuated by a distinctive arched entryway and a modest bell tower. Originally built in the eighteen thirties, the structure replaced an older wooden chapel that served the Armenian community in this coastal neighborhood. When a fire damaged the site in the middle of the twentieth century, the congregation rebuilt the stone walls you see today. It remains a quiet point of reference for the Armenian residents who settled here centuries ago.
