The Kuzguncuk Mosque, also known as the Cinarli Mosque, features a pair of large plane trees shading its courtyard that date back to the time of its original construction in eighteen ninety-two. Sultan Abdulhamid the Second ordered the building erected to serve the growing neighborhood population. While other mosques in Istanbul rise high above the rooftops, this building sits tucked behind its namesake trees, creating a quiet, contained space that has hosted local residents and travelers for over one hundred and thirty years.
