Üryanizade Ahmet Esat Efendi Camii

The Üryanizade Ahmet Esat Efendi Mosque sits on the shoreline with a slender, wooden minaret that leans slightly toward the Bosphorus. Built in eighteen sixty by a high-ranking religious official under Sultan Abdulmecid, the structure was originally a private prayer house for the local community. It remains one of the few surviving timber mosques in Istanbul. During a storm in the early twentieth century, the minaret snapped, leaving the structure to rely on its original, fragile frame for nearly a century.
