Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground

monument

The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground stands on the site of a children's play area originally donated by J. M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan. When the current memorial was commissioned following the death of the princess, designers chose to honor her memory by leaning into that literary heritage. The playground serves as a physical interpretation of the magical world of Neverland. The centerpiece is a full-scale wooden pirate ship, complete with masts and rigging, which sits in a massive expanse of sand intended to evoke the shores of the island.
