In August 1764, the composer Leopold Mozart brought his family to this house seeking fresh air to recover from a persistent illness. At the time, this area was known as Five Fields Row and sat in the open countryside, far removed from the crowded, smoggy streets of central London. The house offered the quiet, rural environment he believed was necessary for his health, and it would soon become a pivotal site in the history of classical music.
