Mahatma Gandhi statue

The bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi seated in the lotus position at the center of Tavistock Square was unveiled in May 1968. It was designed by the Polish-born sculptor Fredda Brilliant, who sought to capture the leader in a moment of calm, reflective intimacy rather than as a distant political figure. The location serves as a deliberate historical anchor, chosen because Gandhi studied law at the nearby University College London between 1888 and 1891.
