The Borough Road railway station opened in eighteen sixty-four as a key stop on the Chatham and Dover Railway line. It operated for only a brief period, closing its doors in nineteen hundred and seven due to fierce competition from the nearby electric tram services. The station platform remained visible from passing trains for decades afterward, serving as a ghostly reminder of the rapid shift in London transportation during the early twentieth century.
