Peter Jones stands on the edge of Sloane Square as a major landmark of Modernist architecture. When it was completed in the nineteen thirties, the building was hailed as a paragon of lucidity and taste. It features a revolutionary glass curtain wall, which was the first of its kind to be utilized in a British department store. The design replaced a series of smaller, piecemeal shops with a sweeping, curved facade that captures the spirit of early twentieth-century innovation.
