The Lexington, Islington

The Lexington occupies a building with roots stretching back to the late eighteenth century, though the structure you see today was rebuilt in the mid-eighteen-seventies. For much of its history, it was known as the Belvidere Tavern, a spot that served as a hub for local literary figures, artists, and legal professionals. In the nineteenth century, these patrons held weekly discussion societies here to sharpen their oratorical skills in the tavern parlor.
