Statue of Sir Nigel Gresley

The bronze statue of Sir Nigel Gresley standing near the booking office at London King Cross station honors the man who served as the chief mechanical engineer for the London and North Eastern Railway. He is remembered for designing two of the most iconic steam locomotives in British history, the Flying Scotsman and the Mallard. The Mallard famously set a world speed record for steam locomotives in nineteen thirty-eight, a record that remains unbroken today. Gresley worked in offices just yards away from where this statue now stands, overseeing the construction of thousands of locomotives during his career.
