Aldwych Theatre

The Aldwych Theatre opened on December 23, 1905, but its debut was far from polished. Construction was so frantic that reports from the time describe workers still installing the building around the feet of the actors during their final dress rehearsal. The theater was built as one half of a symmetrical pair alongside the Waldorf Theatre, now known as the Novello, which were designed to bookend the Waldorf Hotel. They were constructed on the site of what were once considered the notorious slums of the Holborn area.
