The Theatre Royal Drury Lane stands as the oldest continuously licensed theatre in the world, with a history of performance on this exact site dating back to sixteen sixty-three. The building you see today is actually the fourth to occupy the land. Its predecessors were victims of the volatile nature of early theatre, with previous structures famously destroyed by fire. The current neoclassical edifice was designed by Benjamin Dean Wyatt and first opened its doors in eighteen twelve.
