The Ideal Home Show transformed from a simple exhibition into a massive cultural force after moving to the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in 1979. By the time it took over these larger halls, it had long since established itself as the place where the British public first encountered life-changing domestic technology like the electric kettle, the toaster, and the vacuum cleaner. Throughout its thirty-seven-year residency at Earls Court, the show continued to function as a grand laboratory for middle-class aspirations, showcasing everything from mock-Georgian architectural trends to the very first fitted kitchens.
