Pollock's Toy Museum began in the nineteen fifties, not as a planned institution, but as the result of a single woman's determined scavenger hunt. Marguerite Fawdry, the museum's founder, originally set out to purchase a specific wire character slide for her son's miniature toy theatre. After discovering that the business which had supplied them for decades was on the verge of disappearing, she chose to purchase the entire remaining stock of printing plates and inventory to prevent this piece of theatrical history from being lost forever.
