Yalding House

Yalding House stands as a significant landmark in the history of British broadcasting. For over sixty years, starting in 1952, this building served as the home for the BBC music department. It hosted the iconic Radio 3 and later became the central hub for Radio 1. The building's layout offered a unique advantage for its former occupant. Before it became a center for music and radio, it functioned as a car showroom. This original purpose left behind deep, reinforced floors that proved perfect for supporting the massive, heavy shelving of the BBC Central Music Library.
