The Suleymaniye Mosque on Kingsland Road is home to the tallest minaret in the United Kingdom, reaching sixty-six meters into the London skyline. This structure serves as a prominent landmark in Haggerston and was designed by architect Osman Sahan to reflect traditional Ottoman style. The building features intricate Iznik tile work produced by the Guven Cini factory in Turkey, which helps maintain a cool temperature within the interior prayer halls. Opened in 1999, the mosque was established by the United Kingdom Turkish Islamic Cultural Centre to provide a permanent space for worship and education for the local Turkish-speaking community and the wider Muslim population of Hackney.
