You are approaching the site of number one hundred seventy-eight Vallance Road. This modest Victorian terrace house served as the childhood home for Ronnie and Reggie Kray from the time they were five years old until they were well into their lives as infamous underworld figures. Locals and the twins themselves famously nicknamed the property Fort Vallance. The moniker reflected the intense loyalty and insular nature of the family, as the brothers and their mother, Violet, created a world that revolved almost entirely around the household, even as the twins eventually commanded a criminal empire across London.
