The building you are approaching began its life in eighteen sixty-two as the Royal Agricultural Hall, a site local residents still fondly call the Aggie. Before this structure rose from the ground, the three acres of land it occupies were known as Dixons Lairs, a stopover where livestock were kept overnight while being driven to the ancient Smithfield Market. To accommodate the massive influx of animals and visitors during the agricultural revolution, architects designed a colossal iron-roofed space that quickly became a centerpiece of the neighborhood.
