26 Rutland Gate

Number 26 Rutland Gate stands as the final survivor of an ambitious nineteenth century building project. When builder John Tombs constructed this house between 1846 and 1847, he intended it to be part of a larger collection of high-status villas. While the rest of the original design was gradually replaced or demolished, this detached, four-story white stucco villa remained. It is now a protected Grade II listed building, preserved as a rare, intact example of the architecture that once defined this affluent stretch of Knightsbridge.
