Grosvenor Square

Grosvenor Square was created in the seventeen twenties as the centerpiece of the Mayfair district by the Grosvenor family. Sir Richard Grosvenor developed this area from what was then rural land into one of the most exclusive residential addresses in London. The square initially featured a garden designed by John Alston, who filled the space with a wilderness theme of densely wooded mounds, shrubs, and flowers. At the heart of this original garden stood an equestrian statue of King George the First, marking the square as a premier destination for the city's aristocracy and political elite.
