Half Moon Street, London

Half Moon Street takes its name from a noisy, popular tavern that stood at the corner of Piccadilly during the early eighteenth century. While the pub was demolished long ago, the name stuck to the row of brick townhouses that replaced the open fields in seventeen thirty. This street was designed as part of a rapid expansion of the Georgian West End, intended to provide stylish, central housing for the city's rising professional class.
