Hyde Park pet cemetery

The Hyde Park pet cemetery is tucked away in the garden of Victoria Lodge, a quiet, gated space that remains hidden from the casual observer. This secluded plot began quite by accident in eighteen eighty-one when the lodge gatekeeper, Mr. Winbridge, allowed a local family to bury their Maltese terrier, Cherry, in his backyard. What started as a single, compassionate favor soon transformed into a final resting place for over one thousand animals. Because of its location near the park’s carriage ways, many of the dogs buried here were tragic victims of traffic accidents involving horses and carts, turning this garden into a quiet sanctuary for pets lost in the bustling city.
