Warwick Square

Warwick Square stands as a monument to the ambition of the nineteenth-century master builder Thomas Cubitt. Before the elegant white stucco terraces you see today were constructed in the 1840s, this entire area was nothing more than a swampy, marshy field known for market gardens. Cubitt famously raised the level of the low-lying land to make it habitable, even personally financing the covering of a nearby open sewer to ensure the development would be attractive to wealthy Londoners.
