Phoenix Theatre

The Phoenix Theatre stands on the site of a former factory that once produced blacking for boots and later served as a brewery. In the late nineteen twenties, the site was transformed into a theatrical space by the architect Theodore Komisarjevsky. He designed the interior in the Italian style to contrast with the typical ornamentation found in other West End venues of that era. This deliberate choice gave the building a sleek and modern character that defined its aesthetic identity from the moment it opened in nineteen thirty.
