Dome of Discovery

The Dome of Discovery was once the largest dome in the world, stretching three hundred and sixty-five feet in diameter across this very patch of land. Architect Ralph Tubbs designed this massive aluminum-clad structure as the centerpiece of the nineteen fifty-one Festival of Britain. Visitors reached the interior by riding a dramatic, long escalator that carried them into a sprawling, futuristic arena dedicated to human curiosity and scientific achievement.
