During the excavation to build the massive foundations of the transit center beneath this park, workers discovered a fossilized tooth belonging to a prehistoric mammoth. This relic serves as a grounding reminder that long before this site became a hub of modern technology and steel, it was part of a very different, ancient landscape. You are currently standing on a five point four acre rooftop oasis that stretches four city blocks, a feat of engineering that effectively suspended an entire ecosystem seventy feet above the street level.
