Russian Hill-Vallejo Street Crest District

The Russian Hill-Vallejo Street Crest District stands as a rare survivor from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. While the flames consumed vast portions of the city, this residential enclave acted as an island of safety, preserved by its own geography and the quick actions of those who lived there. Many of the homes you see now date back to the mid-nineteenth century, retaining their original structures when almost everything surrounding them was forced into total reconstruction.
