Mexican Museum (San Francisco)

The Mexican Museum was born from a transformative trip to Mexico in 1954 taken by the artist Peter Rodriguez. During his travels, he became captivated by the aesthetic expressions of the Mexican people and realized that San Francisco lacked a dedicated space to explore and preserve this rich cultural heritage. Upon returning home, he committed his energy to building an institution that would house and showcase this artistic legacy, ultimately opening the doors to the public in the Mission District in 1975.
