Amuctac Hill

Amuctac Hill rises within the natural landscape of John McLaren Park, bearing a name that honors the earliest human inhabitants of this area. The name Amuctac comes from an Ohlone village that stood in the nearby valley long before Spanish colonial records were established. This site served as a seasonal summer home for the Yelamu, a group of the Ohlone people who moved across the San Francisco peninsula to follow the natural abundance of the seasons. While the village itself was situated in what is now known as Visitacion Valley, this hill remains a landmark that marks the ancestral territory of those families who once considered this entire region their home.
